MRHS Takes on EHT
September 16, 2014
The Mainland Regional High School XC Team showed spectators who owned their home course by dominating EHT for their first home victory of the season. Rich Heim led the team with Nick Savio, John DiNorfrio, Dakota Wessel, Jimmy Camey, Mathew Dods and Austin Blumetti finishing in the top seven. The final score was 24-33.
Next up for the Mustangs is a double dual meet against Vineland and Millville.

Mainland Regional boys sweep tri-meet with depth
The Mainland Regional High School boys cross country team remained unbeaten with a pair of wins at a tri-meet against Millville and Vineland on Tuesday.
In head-to-head scoring, Mainland had four runners in the top 10 aid it in a 27-31 win over Millville and 23-32 win over Vineland to improve to 4-0."

The Mustangs swept the house today in a double dual meet against St. Augustine Prep and Oakcrest. The first six runners to cross the finish line were Mainland runners John DiNofrio, Nick Savio, Rich Heim, Dakota Wessel, Matthew Dods and Austin Blumetti.

The Mainland Boys Cross Country Team participated in the Shore Coaches XC Invitational and faced the infamously rugged cross country course of Holmdel Park. Despite a dreary weather forecast, the rain ceased and clouds parted leaving behind a sun shiny day and muddy conditions.
Holmdel is one of the country's most well known cross country courses and is the site of the State Group Championships and the Meet of Champions. The meet featured 27 races and more than 4,000 runners competed.
If you mention the word “Holmdel” to most cross country runners, you are likely to receive mixed responses. Some will smile as they recall memories of competing on such a challenging course and some will cringe at the thought of attacking the courses signature features such as the “Rollercoaster” and “The Bowl”.
The 3.1 mile course, thought by most to be the one of the toughest in NJ, begins with flat land for about 100 yards. Runners then head up a long hill that threatens to weaken the best of runners. The incline is then followed by a series of hills known as the “roller coaster”. After another mile of relatively flat ground, runners are treated to a grueling incline known as "The Bowl."
Infamous throughout the running community, "The Bowl" is one of the most recognized hills in NJ. While on the trail, the runners first descend down a fairly steep "Bowl-Like" hill. Then, after the last turn, the runners travel up an extremely steep 150ft incline.
As the runners exit “The Bowl”, they are treated to a gradual decent for the remainder of the course to the finish line.

The Team particpated in the Cherokee Challenge at the Cherokee High School in Marlton, NJ Saturday September 13, 2014. This unique event includes a format slightly different then typical cross country events. The runners compete on a 2-mile course and the races are categorized by grade.
